Written at Vinogradišće bay · Autumn 2025
Vinogradišće is one bay, and over a single day it is four different places. At dawn the water is flat and colourless and the only sound is the first boat clearing the channel. The light comes in low and the stone of the residences holds the cool of the night a little longer.
By midday the bay is at full volume of colour: the blue everyone photographs, the pines dark against it, the terraces bleached pale by the sun. Then the afternoon softens everything, the light goes long and gold, and the bay seems to slow down with it. This is the hour most guests remember, the one they try and fail to describe afterwards.
At night the bay closes in. The marina lights come on, the cicadas take over from the boats, and the channel turns to black glass. Same place, same water, four entirely separate moods between one sunrise and the next. You do not have to do anything to see it. You only have to be here long enough to notice.
