Since 1947, and what we chose not to build

How a small bay on Palmižana has been kept since 1947, and the decision to stay contemporary and private rather than build a hotel.

There has been a restaurant on this bay since 1947. It began with the fishing and the quiet, and what grew around it was deliberate: the restaurant, the welcome, the habit of treating the bay as something to look after rather than to exploit.

Palmižana, and the Adriatic around it, has changed. The harbours are louder, the development heavier, the temptation to build more and charge more very real. We decided to go the other way. Fewer rooms, not more. Four residences, contemporary and private, where there might have been a hotel.

What did not change is the reason any of it exists. The bay is still the point. We still live the seasons here, still cook from the same kitchen, still measure a good year by how rested people leave rather than how many of them came. Some things are worth keeping exactly as they were. Knowing which ones is the whole job.
